India: 1947 and Its Place in History

-Rajesh Tyagi

Year 1947 is marked in India's history as the high point in a whole spiral of betrayals by the Indian bourgeoisie to the anti-colonial struggle. Interested only in few crumbs from the table of colonial regime, Indian bourgeoisie, capitulated again and again to Colonialists before becoming fully complacent in suppression of the anti-colonial struggle. These betrayals, start from hanging of Bhagat Singh and his comrades at the beginning of the 3rd decade of the last century and achieve their pinnacle in August 47. Sliding on the ebb of the revolutionary wave and riding on the back of the communal frenzy and riots, offshoots of communal partition of India, Indian bourgeoisie, under leadership of Nehru-Gandhi-Patel, took the reigns of power in its own hands in 1947, not through resistance, but through shameful compromise with the colonial masters.
