Appeal of the Workers’ Socialist Party

End to All Citizenship Laws and National Borders!
Advance the struggle to build a World Socialist Union!

Reverse the communal divide of 1947, re-unite the Indian subcontinent, and spearhead the struggle for a United Socialist Union in South Asia!

Modi government, the agent of big Indian capitalists, is desperately attempting to rescue the sinking boat of Indian Capitalism from anguish of working people. Unremittingly maneuvering to divide the class unity of the working people through poisonous nostalgia of hindu-supremacy, ethnocentrism and blind nationalism, it is attempting to defend the corrupt and exploitative misrule of ruling Indian elite. To keep the politically backward sections of the Hindu majority, tied to the rule of capitalists, the Modi government is resorting to Islamophobia. The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR), under which a whole network of detention camps is being laid on the lines of Nazi Germany, are the links in this chain.

Modi government is not alone in this desperate attempt. In the wake of the economic crisis of world capitalism in 2008, there has been a catastrophe in capitalist countries. stuck in maelstrom of this crisis, the elite rulers of these countries, who till yesterday had been boasting loud of globalisation on a capitalist basis, are closing their borders for migration and conspiring to oust more and more sections of the working people from the territories under their control. In this period of ever-deepening crisis, the system of capitalism, imprisoned in the narrow cages of the the rival national states, is fast dilapidating and becoming unable to provide food and employment to the people. There is left only one way forward for the bourgeois governments - closing their borders and deporting large sections of the people!

Along with the general crisis of capitalism, wars and oppression are spreading and the crisis of unemployment as well as of emigration is worsening. Faced with this crisis, capitalist rulers are closing the borders of their countries and are eager to push out large parts of the working people as surplus. The United States is sealing its borders with Mexico, Britain is pressing India to repatriate Indian migrants and Italy has already prepared the roadmap to throw out more than 5 lakh immigrants. These attacks, rather than solving the crisis of capitalism, are intensifying it.

The capitalist rulers, in order to dispel and divert the anger of people away from the crisis, are targeting the crisis-stricken poor migrants and refugees, using  xenophobia as a tool to divide the working people on ethnic, regional and communal lines and thereby protect their power from becoming the target of this anger.

The Modi government wants to maintain its grip on power by placing Hindu settlements in Muslim-majority parts of the country and tightly controlling Muslim immigration to rest of the country. Opposition parties are throwing only limited opposition to this venomous communalism of Modi. All these parties, right and left in the opposition, agree with Modi government on reserving Indian territory for 'Indians' only and closing it to 'foreigners'. None of the opposition parties, including the Left parties under Stalinists, stood in favor of the Rohingya and Bangladeshi immigrants. We should also not forget that the NRC was first implemented by the Nehru-led Congress government to stop the 'foreign infiltrators', and even before Modi, the Manmohan government had re-drafted it.

We strongly oppose this sectarian, nationalist, anti-globalist campaign, which the Modi government has given a deep and clear communal colour and warn the proletariat against this conspiracy. Perpetuating the unfortunate communal divide of 1947, igniting religious-regional enmity, the anti-people elite rulers of India want to maintain their power.

The horrific tragedy of the communal divide of 47, in which more than two million were killed and no less than twenty million fell victim of plunder, arson and mass rapes, was the largest humanitarian tragedy in the history of the world, that beheaded our anti-imperialist revolution, divided the sub-continent on communal lines and placed the working people under the yoke of the rule of bourgeoisie on both sides of the border.

From 1947 onwards, the capitalist rulers in whole of South Asia have maintained their rule by conspiring to spread the communal venom and dividing the working people in the name of Indo-Pakistan and Hindu-Muslim. Vast majority of the working people, is encircled like sheeps, living in hellish conditions inside the enclaves of the rival national states, controlled by the national gangs of capitalists. The only way, out of these hellish conditions created by capitalism, is to fight for the socialist revolution.

Today, all capitalist countries of the world are engaged in a hotly contested race against each other, that is becoming increasingly violent, forcing our world to pass through unlimited wars, terrorism and bloodshed. Capitalism cannot unify the world, it can only divide it.

We reject all divisions of the world on national, racial, ethnic or communal basis. On behalf of the international proletariat we appeal for destruction of all barricades that divide the world, impose borders, restrict travel, and impede the freedom of residence and employment. We are struggling to abolish the passport-visa regime and to eliminate all national boundaries, to build a World Socialist Union. In this mission, our immediate goal is: To re-unite the Indian subcontinent by reversing the communal divide of 1947, as part of our larger goal to establish the United Socialist States of South Asia, which in turn is part of the World Socialist Union.

Bourgeois states in South Asia, above all India's right-wing and Hindu-hegemonist Modi government, are the major obstacle to achieving this goal. By overthrowing them through the revolution from below and establishing the Workers' and Toilers’ Governments, South Asia can be consolidated into a socialist union and the narrow national borders and national states can be eliminated forever.

We, thus appeal to the youth and the workers to form 'action committees' in all cities, campuses, factories, to unite in the fight to further accelerate this opposition!

- Oppose all citizenship laws!
- Oppose religious, racial, ethnic, and national oppression!
- Oust the rightwing Modi Government through a mass movement and establish the Workers’ and Toilers’ Government!
- Destroy the National Borders to Unite the World into a Socialist Union!
- Unite the Indian subcontinent by overthrowing the communal divide of 1947 through it forward to the struggle for establishment of 'South Asian Socialist Union'!
